Register at www.chocolatejazz.eventbrite.com The Phoenix Metropolitan area population is approximately 3 percent African American/ African descendant, or 300,000 out of 4 million people. Nationally, one in eight women, as well as a minority of men, will be affected by breast cancer. Within the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, the percentage of women diagnosed with early stages of disease is lower than Caucasian women. Importantly, the percentage of female breast cancer cases diagnosed as Stage IV (metastatic) in 2009 is twice as high as other ethnic groups (8 versus 4%). Nationally, the survival for breast cancer in African American women lags behind other ethnic group.

Within the Phoenix Metropolitan area, there is no group specifically targeting black women and men with breast cancer. As well, there is no website that provides information regarding breast cancer specifically targeting the black population regarding information related to the cancer diagnosis and treatment, or prevention and screening. There is also no social media supporting our community of black breast cancer survivors.
